Nel suo eccellente lavoro di regia della cerimonia inaugurale dei Giochi Olimpici di Londra, Danny Boyle non si è certo dimenticato della sua più recente esperienza teatrale, quella con il Frankenstein del National Theatre, e per la colonna sonora della rappresentazione allo stadio Olimpico si è affidato di nuovo agli Underworld, il cui talento ha dato mostra di sè soprattutto nel brano And I Will Kiss,  che ha accompagnato la scena della rivoluzione industriale e della “forgiatura” dei cinque anelli olimpici, anche grazie all’ispirata performance della percussionista di fama internazionale Evelyn Glennie.

Altro grande momento musicale è stata sicuramente l’apertura, con i cori dei bambini di Inghilterra, Irlanda del Nord, Scozia e Galles che hanno cantato rispettivamente Jerusalem, Danny Boy, Flower of Scotland e Bread of Heaven
